Google Chrome

Like many people, I downloaded Google's new browser and like it.  However, as its in "Beta", I'll point out the things I would like fixed:

  1. Show the complete URL when I mouseover a link.  As a developer, I would like to see all the variables passed in the url string.
  2. When I click on a Word or Excel document as a link, Chrome prompts me to save the file.  I would like to simply open up the corresponding program and view the file.  This is a big miss in my opinion.  I cannot figure out how to associate mime types to a file extension
  3. Allow 3rd party plugins.  No brainer
  4. If I click on the "X" button to close the browser, and I have multiple tabs opened, prompt me with an alert box.  I seem to make this careless mistake often for some reason, and Firefox gives me the option in the settings area to alert me when closing multiple tabs at once.

Just my short list for the moment.

Movie - 10,000 BC

This movie sucked.  Terrible.  It could have been good, but they didn't even try.  Its awful.  I can't decide if it was the writing or whoever cut it, but it doesn't even try to build suspense or anything.

I try to find good in everything, so they did spend something on the special effects.

1 out of 5 stars.

Ultramax Quarter Ironman

Competed in this yesterday.  Very professional event, and well organized.  I was wanting to break 3 hours and came through with a 2:40.  I need to become faster in the run, as I got my butt handed to me.  I rocked the bike, and at one point was flying along ala David Millar speed of 30mph on flat ground.  I probably averaged 25mph when it was flat, which felt really nice.  However that bike doesn't like climbing very much, and the first 5 miles are hills.

I did see Amy Strahan and she was in phenomenal shape as always.  She rocked to a very good 3rd place.  Nice job Amy.

I can say with pretty much confidence that this is the hardest triathlon in the St. Louis area.  The run is so hilly its sick.  Everyone should do it at least once.

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel

David Millar was on this last night so I watched it.  Normally I think Bryant Gumbel is a pretty decent host, but he took a very cheap shot at Lance Armstrong at the very end of the piece, hinting that Lance has always doped or something.

Bryant - do your homework.

Open Water Swimming

Last weekend was my first open water triathlon, and it was an interesting experience.  Swimming in open water is NOT EASY.   First of all, you can't see anything, so that is fun.  Second, a mass start consists of a ton of skinny people running into the water who then proceed to kick and hit each other while trying to swim around a designated course.

The wetsuit is a bit constricting in my opinion, and I find myself learning to swim all over again, but with less air.

So..... hit and kicked, while breathing through a straw.  Whats not to like?

I had a bit of a rough day today.  I know the problem, but don't feel like shouting it out here.  I need a change I think.

I swam today

Since the weather was bad today, I went to the pool.  Usualy I don't swim long on the weekends, but today I did 1.25 miles in about 40 minutes.

The 1/2 ironman is 5 weeks away, and I'm starting to feel pretty good, although the bike is still going to be the toughest part I think.

MOVIE - There Will Be Blood

Great movie.  Daniel Day Lewis is pretty amazing.  The movie is laid out really well.  I have to say I see a little bit of myself in Daniel Day Lewis's character, which scares me a bit.  The director, Paul Thomas Anderson, is awesome, and I like all of his prior movies.

This movie gets a very rare 5 out of 5 stars.  I'll probably buy it.

Kansas Ironman 7.3

Last weekend I scouted the bike and run course.  The bike course is hillier than expected.  Its going to surprise a lot of people I think.  The wind is severe, as there is not much to disipate it across the farmlands.  I was thinking I could do the bike portion (56 miles) in 3 hours, but the wind is pretty hairy.

Now, in case anyone says 56 miles in 3 hours?  Easy!  The race isn't over at that point.  There's a little half marathon waiting for you. You have to "pace" yourself. Its fun to blow past people on a bike, but not fun to die on the run.

All being said, the season has officially started for me, and I'm racing the next 7 weekends.  All duathlons or triathlons.

Go St. Louis 1/2 marathon

Had a good run.  Probably ran too slow as I had a lot of energy left at the end and ran the final mile in 7:30.  15,000 runners.  It was a blast.  I think I'll be doing it again next year.  I wish I didn't have to get up at 4:30am though.

4.75 out of 5 stars.

MOVIE - Semi-Pro

This has Will Farrell in it, and he's one of my favorite actors.  I have to say, this movie is not funny at all.  There may be like 2 minutes worth of funny material here.  Most of it is garbage, and is not delivered well in the movie at all.  What I mean is, that it could have been funny, but the movie didn't capture it.

Seriously, I give this 1.5 out of 5 stars.

I’m gold
Today I joined Gold’s Gym. I’ve been swimming at Wellbridge, and they are the best I think, but $100 a month is a bit steep. All I’m using is the pool. Golds is $30.
The Pointe is ok, but there are times that they are closed, and they seem to coincide with the times I want to swim. So I’m not really a Golds Gym type guy, but there pool is decent, and I need to do 2.4 miles.

Totally disappointing in my opinion. I read his book, and as long as the facts are true (from his side), I think he got royally screwed.

Today
Was not one I wish to remember. Job - sucks. Today’s ride - came within an inch of being run down by an older lady. I have never done this, but I chased her down until she stopped and asked her if she realized she just about killed me. I asked her to be more careful next time, and she said thank you. I’m too nice. She started to pass me, then immediately took a right turn. If I hadn’t glanced at her, I would never have known I was about to be killed. Oh well, I’m still alive.
About 30 minutes later, blowout. Its about 98 degrees with the heat index, and I’m sitting there fixing a flat.

I did solve a big problem at work, and at a project I’m doing at home. I’m trying to stay positive.

Holy crap this is an incredibly violent movie. Shocking. I have to say I was scared almost the entire time. It was definitely not my ideal movie.

I’m pretty excited about it. The dog hair in my house is driving me nuts.

This morning. Finished in about 23 minutes. It felt like a cyclocross race in some respects.

Alpine Shop Swap Meet
Went to this last night. I think the Alpine Shop is the biggest rip off of any store in St. Louis. Their "discounted prices" are still higher than most everybody else. They might have had a decent price or two on used bikes, but most everything else was a joke.

Factoid - Restaurant bathrooms???
People are 50 times more likely to die in a restaurant bathroom than in an airliner accident.

Plans to build a blizzard safety hut for climbers near the peak of Alaska’s Mt. McKinley had to be abandoned because it could not be made wheelchair-accessible, as required by law.

You smell good
Every day, a male co-worker walks up very close to a lady standing at the coffee machine, inhales a big breath of air and tells her that her hair smells nice.
After a week of this, she can’t stand it anymore, takes her complaint to a supervisor in the personnel department and asks to file a sexual harassment grievance against him.

The Human Resources supervisor is puzzled and asks, "What’s sexually threatening about a co-worker telling you your hair smells nice?"

The woman replies, "It’s Keith, the midget.

MOVIE - Perfect Stranger
Saw it with Heidi and Mary Ann. Pretty much sucked I think. Giovanni Ribisi was cool. Halle Berry’s acting sucked pretty bad. No Oscar for her this time. Bruce Willis is pretty much always cool.
1.5 out of 5 stars.

Basso
I’m glad he’s suspended. I think Discovery was stupid for signing him so quickly. He’s got a dark cloud hanging over his head, and for some reason, I think he’s guilty. Only a gut feeling, but in my eyes, Discovery’s image was tarnished.

I’m just not feeling right today. A twinge of a sore throat and my eyes have been burning all day. Is there a doctor in the house?

Miracle
We watched this movie Saturday. Incredible. 6 out of 5 stars. It would be a good movie to watch before an important race as it would really inspire you to do well. I didn’t really realize many of the details of this Olympics. I thought the Soviet team just basically tanked. But this is not true. The US team out trained and out played them in almost every respect. If you haven’t seen this, you really should. Just amazing.

Another reason to hate the dentist
Dentist guilty of urinating in surgery sink

LONDON (Reuters) - A British dentist was found guilty Thursday of urinating in his surgery sink and using dental tools meant for patients to clean his fingernails and ears.

A medical tribunal said it was satisfied the evidence showed 51-year-old Alan Hutchinson, who routinely did not wear gloves or wash his hands, had risked the health of "himself, staff and patients" for more than 28 years.

A dental nurse who worked for Hutchinson for 16 years said she had caught him urinating in the sink more than once.

"He was tucking something into his trousers before zipping them up hastily. I walked over and I was behind him. He moved to the left and I could smell urine," the nurse told the tribunal. The tribunal determined that the dentist’s poor hygiene habits made him unfit to practice and struck him off the dental register, banning him from work.

"You urinated into a sink in your surgery following which you did not wash your hands and then proceeded to treat a patient. This behavior was clearly inappropriate and is completely unacceptable," the tribunal chairman said.

Spending my Easter weekend with my grandma and grandad out here. Fly back home overnight Wednesday into Thursday. What's anyone else's plans for Easter?

Slot Car Track

This is my slot car track.  It's made out of MDF board.  Well
actually it's not done yet.  this is just the track.  I still have to mount it on a couple of tables and rig up all the electronics.  I used a router to make the slots.  It will have 3 lanes.  I think the lap length is around 45 feet or so.
